Dear Superiors and Communities & Friends,

The education of those persons which our tradition calls good children, aims at their comprehensive rehabilitation in the greatest measure possible, with the purposeful view toward their attainment of the most independence possible and the true joy of living effectively with others-PEG, 321
Don Guanella Rehabilitation Centre, Chennai gladly conducts an Orientation Programme on Rehabilitation of special Children (with mental retardation) from 20th-23rd March in the premises of Don Guanella Major Seminary with the evangelical message Charity- the infallible rule of education. The main objectives of this course are to orient the participants on etiological, functional and psycho-social aspects of mental retardation, to provide opportunities in order to learn about the existing facilities and concerns for the mentally retarded and to implement the in put and rehabilitation strategies.

The entire course revolves around the following topics:
Mental Retardation: Definition, Causes and Symptoms, Prevalence and Incidents.
Assessment of Mental Retardation, Categorization of functional abilities
Parental interactions
Prevention, Early identifications
Intervention Strategies
Psycho-social implications of Mentally Retarded Children Parental and Community attitude, Myths and Misconceptions Rehabilitation of special children through Vocational Training
Stress Management through Yoga Therapy

The Resource Persons are:
Clinical Psychologists, Special Educators, Project Officers from Government Sectors, Physio & Occupational therapists and Directors of some renowned Institutions.

The participants are:
The personnel of DGRC, the inmates of DGMS, a group of sisters from DSMP and other neighboring institutes, a group of confreres from GPN, some special educators from different institutes and a group of parents of our Good Children.

The course was inaugurated by the District Rehabilitation Officer for the Disabled in the presence of Rev. Fr. Soosai Rathinam, the Vice Provincial and the Asst. Rehabilitation Officer.
